Having worked with Dr. Charlie Ehlen of Sartell for more than 40 years, Bob Perleberg said it has been a delightful experience. Back then, Perleberg worked as a forester for the Department of Natural Resources in Little Falls. Ehlen had a property in Randall that was in need of forest management.

When Perleberg retired from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources 10 years ago, he started a consulting business and has since continued to work with several of the landowners he worked with before. Ehlen is one of them, he said.

Ehlen was named “Tree Farmer of the Year” last year by the American Forest Foundation. Since he won “state,” Perleberg said Ehlen will go on to compete at the national regional level next year as a representative for the Upper Midwest.

“If he wins that, he will go on to the national level, where one is chosen as the U.S. Tree Farmer of the Year,” Perleberg said.
